Death Note Episode 14 - "Friend"
The 14th episode of Death Note opens with Light Yagami breaking to Misa that he cannot technically be her boyfriend, though he can pretend to be. It is revealed that he plans on using Misa and he death note to kill L, and eventually kill Misa as she would then be the only person to know his identity. Light introduces Misa to Ryuk as they discuss their new plan to kill L. He then develops an elaborate plan involving Misa releasing various videos praising Kira, and announcing that she is joining him in his mission. Light hopes that the videos will throw off L's investigation and confuse him as to how many Kira's there may be.
Part of Light's plan involves him dating other girls, and only seeing Misa in secrecy, something that Misa does not take too kindly too. Light becomes frustrated with Misa's disobedience, and threatens to kill her. However, Misa's shinigami, Rem, steps in and reveals to L that she has developed feelings for Misa, and will use her notebook to kill L if he does anything to Misa, a move that would ultimately result in Rem's demise.
Light heads to the investigation headquarters the next day to see what L's reaction is to the second Kira's tape. He arrives to find out the L has already received Misa's tape, and that the plan is going exactly according to plan thus far. L, however puts a quick dagger in these plans by deducing from the final tape that the two Kiras have met. He comes to this conclusion due to the fact that the second Kira stated that she is now attempting to gain the original Kira's approval, though her previous videos never made any such statements. Despite the fact that the second Kira desperately had wanted to meet Kira, he had never gone to these lengths. L concludes that this is a way of concealing their meeting.
Light entertain the possibility of this tape being a reverse psychology of some sort as way of announcing that they had indeed met, in order to force L onto television to judge the second Kira. Light, however, rejects this notion and explains his thinking if hypothetically was Kira. L throws a curve ball at Light by telling him he really hopes he is not Kira, as he feels Light is the only friend he has ever had. Light seems to be thrown off by this shocking declaration, but plays along by saying the same thing about L.
The episode concludes with Light attempting to use Rem's feelings for Misa to coerce Rem into killing L. Shockingly, Rem agrees to kill L as the episode ends.
