Death Note ep. 22: Guidance
L is annoyed with Misa's method of "help" from the previous episode. He is worried that if the killing's stop, he'll never discover how the murders are being committed. Light is upset with Misa for disobeying his orders to leave the situation alone. L speaks with the surveillance team to see if they can break into Higuchi's. Rather than bug his home, L asks them to bug Higuchi's cars instead.
L once again asks Light and Misa if they remember how to kill the way Kira does. Light angrily claims he is not the killer, but L persists. He asks Light if it were true his memories had been erased and the power relinquished, would it be because Light made that decision or a superior officer had chosen? Light answers that in this scenario, it would have been his choice.
In an attempt to trap Higuchi, L and the rest of the team set up a trap using the Kira TV specials aired weekly. They will send Matsuda on the program, claiming he knows the true identity of Kira. By "accidentally" revealing his identity, they will force Higuchi to act. Matsuda agrees even though it will place him in grave danger.
Later, members of the Yatsuba Group complain to Namikawa that they fear the Kira situation will come crashing down on them soon. They all correctly suspect Higuchi is Kira. They ask Namikawa who he was speaking with during the previous meeting. Just then, Light-as-L calls again to explain the plan. Rather than Lie, Namikawa openly admits to his associates that he is speaking with L. With Namikawa on board, the sting is on track to proceed as planned.
Meanwhile, Higuchi rants about his plan to gain the Shingami eyes by marrying Misa. The television program works perfectly and Higuchi panics. Unable to discover Matsuda's real name, he calls Misa for help but she refuses to answer. Unable to reveal he knows that Matsui isn't the real name of the man on the television show, Higuchi realizes he is trapped. Desperate, he calls the talent office that employs Misa and asks for the name of her former manager.
Higuchi heads to the management agencies offices to look at their personnel files, believing Matsuda's real name is there. While Higuchi races to the office building, the Kira investigation team remarks on how their plans have worked perfectly.
