Death Note ep. 24: Revival
With Higuchi incapacitated, the team heads in to pick him up. Captured and blindfolded, Higuchi explains everything he knows about the death note to L, under threat of torture. Soichiro picks up the death note and panics when Rem appears to him. Mochi takes it from him and also gains the ability to see Shinigami.
L has the notebook brought to the helicopter and also gains the ability. While his mind feverishly works out that there have to be at least two notebooks in the world, Light snatches the death note from L's hands. As his memories flood back, Light screams in anguish. Now aware that he was the original Kira, Light begins doing research on the names written inside the book. As L stares at him curiously, Light thinks to himself that he has won.
A flashback to the moment when Light relinquished the death note shows how he managed to trick Rem and Ryuk into playing into his plans. As he can only retain his memories while holding the book, Light must discover a way to kill Higuchi without letting go of the death note. Releasing a secret chamber in his watch, Light pulls out a needle and pricks his finger with it. Using the blood, he writes Higuchi's name in tiny print inside the notebook. As expected, Higuchi has a heart attack and dies in the street while Light thinks to himself that L will be the next to die.
Back at the investigator's HQ, the team reads over the death note's rules. However, Light has added some false rules to the back cover to prevent the book from being destroyed. The second false note says that an owner of the death note who does not write a name in the book for 13 days will die, effectively clearing Light and Misa of any crime.
L tries to interrogate Rem about the death notes but is met with evasive answers. L reluctantly agrees that Light and Misa should be freed. Once again, Light gloats over how he plans to kill L. As Misa leaves the compound, Light tells her where her note book is buried. Once she unearths it, she too regains her memories of being the second Kira. She finds a note from Light, telling her to write L's real name into the book, cut out a few pages, and the rebury the book.
Unfortunately, she is unable to remember his real name. Ryuk appears and Misa foolishly makes the Shinigami Eyes deal a second time, quartering her life span. She returns to the HQ and touches light with a piece from her book, allowing him to see Ryuk. As the episode ends, Light tells Misa he wants to make an ideal world without crime with her at his side.
