Death Note ep. 33: Scorn
Near decides to head to Japan to personally deal with Light and Kira, bringing along his top agent. Misa uses a "comeback" tour to reenter the spotlight and gain access to NHN. Light receives a phone call from Near, informing the team that he has come to Japan to arrest Kira. He tells them that there are only four members of SPK and he expects Kira to use their small numbers to fight them. Near says he will then be able to beat the killer at his own game. Light accepts this as his final challenge.
Near decides against simply killing Light and his agents, as it would disgrace L's memory. Later that evening, Light meets with Takada and feigns small talk while passing her Kira related notes, safe from the Japanese task force's cameras. His notes inform her that he wants her to use the death note for him to which she agrees. She calls Teru and tells him to send her five pages of the note book and then create a fake note book and continue adding names to it.
Light suspects a former CIA agent working as Takada's bodyguard as a potential member of the SPK. Near believes that the fourth Kira must be someone close to Takada to forge an alliance between the two and the original Kira. When footage of Teru appears on the television, Near believes he ha solved the puzzle and places Teru as the current owner of the death note.
Misa runs into Takada while heading to her show and openly mocks her. Mochi reprimands her but Takada is dismissive of Misa. She tries to attack Takada but the American body guard restrains her. Near discovers that Takada has been meeting Light in rooms without security cameras, putting their operative on Takada's bodyguard team in jeopardy. The SPK's surveillance of Teru has shown no evidence of him being part of the Kira conspiracy, but Near is adamant he is using the death note.
Later, Takada calls Misa and the two agree to have dinner together. Takada invites Hal, the American bodyguard and SPK mole along as well. At dinner, Takada rubs in the fact that she is allowed to see Light while Misa is not. Misa tells her that she plans to announcer her engagement to Light at the pop music festival. Misa is drinking heavily. Takada promises she will not use her connections with Kira to cause any harm to anyone personally. Misa taunts her relationship with the killer will result in Takada being executed.
Takada excuses herself from dinner and heads home. Misa follows her out the door and drunkenly stumbles while screaming insults at her. Near realizes from listening to the tapes of this conversation that Light has both of their loyalties secured. In front of one of the agents, Teru openly uses a notebook on a street tough harassing a woman on the train. As the man drops dead, Teru walks calmly away.
